Current Status

HTML5 is the fifth major revision of the core language of the World Wide Web, HTML. The 24 June 2010 W3C Working Draft produced by the HTML Working Group, part of the HTML Activity intends to publish this document as a Working Group Note to accompany the HTML5 specification.

The Draft:

1. Defines a single language called HTML5 which can be written in HTML syntax as well as  in XML   syntax.

2. Defines detailed processing models to cater interoperable implementations.

3. Improves existing markup for documents.

4. Introduces new markups and APIs (application programming interfaces)for emerging idioms,   such as Web applications.

New APIs

• API for playing videos and audios which can be used with the new video and audio elements.
• An API that enables users to use web applications in offline mode.
• API that allows a Web application to register itself for certain protocols or media types.
• API with new content editing attribute.
• API with drag and drop attribute.
• API that exposes the history and also allows pages to add to it to prevent breaking the back button.

New Entrants

HTML 5’s structure is improved with some new elements, including, as well, inline features. Thanks to all these elements, the process of using the web pages is much easier and even more secured. The new elements included are:

Objectives

• • All those vendors included in the collective effort, as Microsoft, Opera, Mozilla and Apple, are still working to develop a perfect structure of HTML 5, by continuously upgrading the structure factors.
  • The vendors are also focused in changing the HTML syntax from the SGML (Standard Generalized Markup Language) to XML (XForms Markup Language), and, as well, to add some more elements, as SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics). At the same time, it presents more browser elements in RSS and tabs options.
